Cornerstone Church is a local congregation of the 11-million-strong global United Methodist Church that opens hearts, opens doors and opens minds to achieve the mission of "making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."
The Methodist movement began with John Wesley in Britain. Wesley, an Anglican priest, was convinced that the Christian faith should be put into action through Christian living. Wesley referred to this as "practical divinity."
Cornerstoneís core values reflect this Methodist emphasis. First, we seek to Love God. This means that worship and the study of Scripture are central to understanding what the Christian life is about. United Methodists rely on Scripture, reason, tradition, and experience to come to these understandings. Secondly, we seek to Love Others. As Jesus said in Matthew 28: "what you have done for the least of these you have done for me." In other words, Loving God is tangibly achieved through Loving Others. Finally, we seek to Proclaim Christ. We believe that Christ is the full expression of Godís love and will for the world. We proclaim Christ as we reach out in love through mission work and community service because this is the mission of Christ: to reconcile the world to God.
