The Meaning of Christmas: Longing for Deliverance and Proclaiming Christ
Again this year, we approach Christmas aware of darkness, suffering and anxiety in the world around us. Once again we remember that this is exactly the kind of time into which Jesus was born and about which the Bible says that His light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not been able to overcome that light.
Our Advent sermon series is drawn from the book of the prophet Jeremiah, sometimes referred to as the "weeping prophet" because of his grief at the fallenness of the world and the suffering of his people. Sprinkled through the book are reminders of Godís faithfulness and promise and prophecies of the Messiah who would come to deliver us.
Please particularly think of inviting a neighbor to worship during this Advent season so that they can hear these words of hope penned in hard times. Perhaps that neighbor will join us on Christmas Eve to celebrate the fulfillment of that hope. And perhaps as we invite neighbors, and they find hope, we will be the healing influence that God has called His people to be in every time, nation and circumstance. Please pray about who God is calling you to invite and about how we can together shine the light of Christmas in 2018.
