Souper Bowl Sunday

by Gale Vician and Tish Calhamer

On January 1st, we kick off our “Souper” Bowl challenge by asking you to start saving your coins to support Food for Greater Elgin, culminating in our annual “weigh in” of coins on Sunday, February 11th.

Our SOUPER BOWL CHALLENGE is a contest between the women and men competing with one another to collect the largest amount of money by weight and by amount to donate to this cause. Two large soup kettles will be present on Sunday, February 11th, and we ask:

1)  Save up all your loose change from now until February 11th, then bring them in to worship service on Super Bowl Sunday and place in one of the two kettles. Checks or bills are also gladly accepted!

2)  Give up one fast food meal a week OR one meal out during this period, write a check and donate what you would have spent (don’t forget the tip). Please write Souper Bowl in the memo space of your check and place in the offering plate.

Note:  If you will not be able to be present on February 11th , please place your coins, bills etc. in a zip-lock bag, label it Men or Women and drop it off in the church office. It will be placed in the appropriate kettle on the final day of the contest.

Food for Greater Elgin serves more than 2,665 households in Elgin, South Elgin, East Dundee and West Dundee, equating to over 23,475 individuals of whom approximately 34% are children and 20% are elderly. All shoppers can receive meat, fresh produce, dairy, deli, and shelf-stable items during their visits to Food for Greater Elgin.

Contact Gale Vician (vicianova@comcast.net or (847) 609-0558) or Tish Calhamer (Calhamer@yahoo.com or (847) 525-3580) for more information.
