September Soup Kettle Opportunity

Friday, September 6, 2024
4-7 p.m.

It’s CHILI NIGHT tonight! We will share chili and all the “fixin’s” with our friends who depend on the Soup Kettle for nourishing meals. Please donate a pot of chili, sides of cornbread, crackers, cheese, salad, or desserts such as brownies or cookies. Financial support to defray costs is also welcome. Please bring your tasty dishes or desserts to the church by early Friday afternoon, or bring with you to Holy Trinity.

We are blessed to serve approximately 70 people each meal, and are asking for donations to help defray these costs. We would also welcome extra hands to help cook, serve, and clean up from 4 pm—7 pm. Come for part or all of the time and share God’s love with our community in need.

Cornerstone hosts the Soup Kettle at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on the first Friday of every month. (Holy Trinity Lutheran Church is located at 357 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120.)

Host responsibilities include setting up, cooking, greeting guests, serving food, and cleaning up. Volunteers can work either a full shift (4 p.m.-7 p.m.) or a partial shift (just to help cook, for example).

Contact Tish Calhamer (847-525-3580 or calhamer@yahoo.com) or Gale Vician (847-609-0558 or vicianova@comcast.net) if you can help, or contact the church office at office@umc-cornerstone.org.

The Elgin Soup Kettle offers breakfast six days a week and dinner every night at different local churches. These free home-cooked meals are available to anyone in need.
