September 2023 Pastor’s Letter

From the Desk of Pastor Melissa

Dear Friends,

Benjamin Shaw writes, “We live in a funny age. Some people still have telephone landlines. But they mostly use them to call their cell phone because they have forgotten where they left it. And they need the cell phone, because it has an app that helps them find their car keys, for they have forgotten where they put their car keys. This kind of forgetfulness is largely due to being busy, distracted, and inattentive.”

It is just as easy to forget people as it is to forget things. We don’t watch the time or the day, and we miss picking folk up, meeting people, or we neglect to check in on those we care for but fail to remember.

This hamster wheel existence can lead us to be forgetful of God. Our minds stray in church, and before we know it, service is over and we don’t remember much of what happened. We fall asleep during prayer. It can be so easy to forget that we are the children of a creative God who is deeply involved in our lives. God, who always wants the best for us.

We forget birthdays, we forget anniversaries, we forget promises, and we forget God. This kind carelessness isn’t good for our relationships with one another and our relationship with God. I know you join me in wanting strong relationships.

You and I are a part of God’s ongoing story of creation. We, who are rooted in Christ, are empowered by God’s Spirit to branch out into the world touching people with God’s love and grace. This has implications on how we live in relationship with God, with each other, and with all the Earth.

I look forward to seeing you, your family and your friends in worship!

Pastor Melissa
