August 2022 Pastor’s Letter
From the Desk of Pastor Melissa
Dear Friends,
This week, I found myself in the school supply aisle (if you’re wondering, it’s the seasonal section where the patio and garden supplies used to be. It doesn’t matter which store, they are all pretty predictable). Wandering through the racks of crayons, folders and pencils, my mind wandered back to the excitement I felt deciding what was the best color folder for math class and writing my name in sharpie on the red one. I also remembered finding myself in that aisle with six kids, each wanting to let me know which color was needed. August, for my family, was always a time for finding socks, figuring out locker combinations, and most importantly, reconnecting to the wider community. Sleeping late and lazing about the house was no longer needed. Getting up and getting out was a welcome change.
Recently, I was gratified to see that U-46 students, kindergarten through 6th grade, will be gifted their school supplies with the exception of a backpack. Because of the missional giving in our church, children can receive a backpack at Cornerstone’s National Night Out Block Party from 6-9 pm Tuesday, August 2. We have 50 backpacks ready for the kids, so please share this good news! If you would like to donate a backpack, you can bring it with you on Tuesday or drop one off at church.
Our National Night Out Block Party is also a terrific opportunity to come out and meet your neighbors and first responders. You will enjoy some terrific music by The Elevate Project, Charles Horton and Kris Hemphill. Or, have a bite to eat from the food trucks (wood-fired pizza! Ice-cream! BBQ/kabobs!). Play bags, have some fun on the inflatables or just visit under the tent with both old and new friends.
We know you, your family and your friends will have a wonderful time at Cornerstone’s Block Party. August really is a wonderful time to reconnect to your church community-see you soon!
